If my floor is painted, do I have to remove the paint prior to putting down DuraSquares™?
If your floor is painted and bonded well to the floor, you can apply
DuraSquares ™ carpet tiles directly on the painted surface. There is a
simple test you can do to find out if the paint is well bonded. First, take a
piece of aggressive sticky tape, such as duct tape, and press the tape down
firmly onthe painted surface, keeping one end of the piece of tape in your
hand. Then, rip the tape up quickly. If the paint comes off with the tape, the
paint is not well bonded and your floor will need to be stripped before
applying DuraSquares™ carpet tiles. If the paint doesn’t lift off with the
tape, the paint is well bonded to the floor and you can begin applying the
carpet tiles to the painted surface. Be sure to test several areas of the floor
to insure the entire floor is suitable to install DuraSquares™ carpet tiles. |
